About

Hi.  My name is Dan.

At the age of seven, my older brother and I went with our parents to visit some friends.  As Fred and I played with the kids around their property, we came upon junk pile.  And to our surprise, we found an engine-less mini-bike sitting in the pile.

Within seconds, we began daydreaming about how one could use that frame and decided to inquire about it.  The friends told us that it was ours if we wanted it.

The moment we got it home, we found ourselves removing the engine from my dad's lawnmower, connected a bicycle brake handle and cable to the carburetor, connecting a v-belt to the transmission, and were on our way.  No brakes. No clutch.  Just pull the string while running along beside it and gassing it to change the speed.

That's how it all began.  We rode the wheels off that little minibike and soon were bugging our parents for something a little faster.

That was more than 30 years ago and motorcycles have been in my life ever since, whether by actual ownership or in my daydreams (during my first eight years or so of marriage).

At the moment of this writing, I have three motorcycles in my garage:
1. a 1992 Suzuki Katana converted into a Cafe Racer/Street Fighter.
2. a 2004 Suzuki SV650S.
3. a small Chinese-made 50cc pocket bike (my contribution to my kids' future in the sport).

The purpose of this blog is for me to document the thing I love most (next to my wife and kids); that is, riding motorcycles.  I will jot down notes about rides I take (including maps, photos, videos, and area history), helpful information for newbies, gear reviews, etc.  Hopefully, my enthusiasm for two-wheeled motorsports will spill into your life.
